15 - Terrorist proscription, self-determination & human rights - Bill Bowring (Professor of Law, Birkbeck College); Gareth Peirce (Birnberg Peirce & Partners, Solicitors); Dr Susan Breau (Reader in International Law and Assistant Associate Dean for Research at the School of Law at the University of Surrey); Alex Fitch (CAMPACC). How has the ‘war on terror’ impacted on the right of peoples to self-determination and what are the implications for proscribed groups and solidarity movements?
16 - 'The power of community: how Cuba survived Peak Oil - Film screening and talk hosted by the Cuba Solidarity Campaign
16 - Demo against E.ON, - Join the Greenwash Guerrillas to show that E.ON’S greenwash won’t wash! We will be cordoning off the area and warning summit delegates about the high levels of toxic greenwash leaking from the building. (We suspect its source to be E.ON Managing Director Bob Taylor, who’s got a top spot on the panel.) This should be a fun, subversive demo, with the Camp for Climate Action, Rising Tide, People and Planet, Earth First! and WDM all helping to spread the word. Bring if you can: a white painter's/boiler suit and any home-made greenwash detecting devices you can think up (eg. part of an old hoover, a remote control, a hair dryer painted green – get creative!) If you can’t bring these things, not to worry, extras will be on hand.
16 - The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil - Film screening and talk. This film is a key text in the Transition Towns projects. You might expect a film about Cuba to be a homage to Fidel Castro, but this inspirational film celebrates a more anarchist, grass-roots approach to solving the growing problem of our age: producing food without oil. Luis Santamaria of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign will be introducing the film and running a question and answer session afterwards.
17 - Kent, coal and climate change - A local issue going global - Join local and national campaigners in the historic Fort Amherst for an evening of film, speakers and exhibits addressing local concerns about climate change and Kingsnorth coal-fired station. Robert Redford narrates ‘Fighting Goliath: Texas coal wars’. Archbishop Desmond Tutu sends a video message about climate change. Sean Furey, Deputy Director, CPRE – Kent highlights the dramatic impacts of climate change on Kent. Plus, the premiere of WDM’s ‘Kingsnorth: A local issue going local’. Refreshments provided.
17 - Action against private equity - Squeezed by Debt, Taxes and Cost of Living? Rise Up and Resist the Giants of Global Capitalism. Help deliver a giant invoice of debt to Kohlberg, Kravis and Roberts(KKR). Thousands of trade unions, community organisations, environmentalists, workers and activists will be taking part in a global day of action against KKR. Actions are planned in 100 cities in 25 countries.
19 - Screening of Mark Thomas on Coca-Cola, Brighton - Coca-Cola is a continuing example of the consistently lawless operations of multinationals in developing countries and in Colombia in particular where it has been held responsible for paramilitary murders of trade unionists and workers. With 70% of its profits coming from developing countries it is also where its corporate practices, with respect to human rights and the environment, fall far short of acceptable. 21 - World Forum on Applied Knowledge - An opportunity to exchange practical experiences for the construction of an alternative society NOW. Convened by Talleres Transhumantes and the Free Univeristy of the 5th Region of Chile.
23 - Climate Camp & Beyond - The Campaign against Climate Change, based upstairs from Housmans at 5 Caledonian Road, has been central in mobilising the population of Britain to stand up against the lack of action being taken by business and government in tackling this potentially catastrophic issue. This evening a range of supporters from the campaign will be talking about the forthcoming Climate Camp, and looking forward to the future. 26 - Llangollen Fringe Ecoday 2008 - Afternoon of speakers offering insight into inspirational grassroots reactions to environmental and community issues, including Paul Kingsnorth, environmental journalist and activist; Neil Crumpton, Friends of the Earth; permacultarist Jade Wright; Dave Green on community energy saving schemes; and Leanna Jones from CittaSlow Mold.
26 - Paul Mason: Syndicalism and the Global Working Class - We are delighted to welcome Newsnight's Economics Editor Paul Mason, to talk about his book "Live Working or Die Fighting" in which he compares the struggles of the global working classes of today, with those of the late 1800s (the first time the working class went global). Paul will be focusing on the significance of syndicalism in those early formations of class solidarity.

31-July to 03-Aug - Anarchopride, Sweden - "Anarchist queers breaking borders". Coinciding with Europride in Stockholm, there will be an anarchist queer gathering at the same time, with workshops, discussions, parade and party.

3 - March from Rochester to Kingsnorth - March with the Camp for Climate Action “Caravan” on its last day before it reaches the ‘Climate Camp’. (1) march all the way (seven miles), (2) just attend a brief rally and march a mile or so through Rochester, or (3) just do the first and last parts of the march (get a bus from Strood and join us again at Hoo for the final mile or so to Kingsnorth). A new wave of coal-fired power stations will be a disaster for any meaningful attempt to avert catastrophic climate change. Come and lend some support to the movement that is building against it !
04-Aug to 11-Aug - Camp For Climate Action - This year will be at the Kingsnorth coal fired power station, south of Ashford, Kent. The new coal-fired plant proposed for the site will pump out the same amount of carbon dioxide as the 30 least-polluting countries combined, and will produce twice as many emissions as a third runway at Heathrow.
07-Aug to 10-Aug - Northern Green Gathering - - a small volunteer-run environmental/educational gathering, on a beautiful new site in North Yorkshire!
9 - Shut down Kingsnorth Power Station - Those at the camp will be joined by thousands more from across the UK to converge on the power station via land, sea and air. Four different groups, each using different tactics (including a group accessible to parents and children). The ’Great Rebel Raft Regatta’ (GRRR) will be launching an armada: from pirate ships to Viking boats, a multitude of different themed rafts are being constructed out of recycled materials (available at the camp.) Landlubbers can join the ’Orange Pod’ who will be putting on their dancing shoes and heading straight for the main entrance in a colourful, musical spectacle. If you're more a fan of wild undergrowth than endless economic growth then the ’Green Guerrillas’ will be approaching through the surrounding fields and woods, looking for weak points in the perimeter fence up, under or through. 16 - Shut Down the BNP's 'Red White & Blue' Festival - Once again the BNP plan to hold their annual bash, where fascists from all over the country, and beyond, gather to forge ties, plot racist attacks, sing songs about the ‘Third Reich’, and drunkenly fall about waving their handbags at each other.
